Mama of 4 here (the last two were born 15 mins apart!) They are adults now. 2 are very organized and 2 are not! I too homeschooled my kiddos (it was illegal at the time - YIKES!) So this is bringing back memories! I like that you keep it "real" on your channel!

We usually make a mustard potato salad. I put mustard and pickle juice over my hot potatoes. Then after they’ve cooled in the fridge, I add everything else. Saw it on America’s test kitchen years ago. This was a fun video, mostly because of Shayla’s personality. The wooden spoons…👩‍🍳 lol.

I lived in the middle of nowhere, with NO phone at all (at first) because we couldn't afford one, sometimes no car or very little gas (so driving was for necessity only!), a husband that worked afternoon shifts - often 14 hours a day with a 1hr drive each way, and a dysfunctional, non helpful in laws who lived down the street & my own family was 1/2+hr away, & very, very few friends. So, what to do? I turned my kids into the best companions a woman could ever want. they were my conversation, fun, etc.....I had a kid that at 2 1/2 yo was like an adult & the best conversationalist you could ever ask for. Luckily, the road I live on is where I grew up & I was surrounded by distant relatives & had a few older ones that were retired & liked to spend time with us. I.just.hung.in.there! I would try to give myself some perspective; my great grandmother raised 7 kids in the house I live in. her husband worked on The Barge Canal (NY state) and was away all week long. Meanwhile, she was left tending 7 kids & their family farm all by herself during the Great Depression. talk about lonely! All she had for help was her 9 yo son (my granddad), & other kids, and one neighbor family that teamed up together to get work done. At one point she had 4 kids in clothe diapers!!!!!!! I reflect on all of the challenges she must have faced (her husband was NOT a kind man) and the loneliness & desperation she must have felt at times. I have experienced many of the same challenges, I bet. I think of my other grandmother; 10 kids, middle of nowhere, couldn't drive, husband working grueling hours at a wire mill to put food on the table.... women just carry on! Learning to be content with your own 'self' and the thoughts in your own mind certainly help turn loneliness into peaceful solitude. Also making friends with your immediate neighbors helps dispel the clouds of loneliness. NOW, my house is brimming with visitors; today there were 3 different sets of people in & out. Sometimes I wish for some loneliness LOL
